    VIDEO DESCRIPTION
It’s springtime, baby. The bees are buzzin’ all up in my orange blossoms and I think one of ‘em flew in my bonnet, because I got a hankerin’ to get out in this beautiful weather to snap some photos. There’s a specific 6x17 shot I’ve been wanting to take for quite some time in Garden Grove, but first I think I’ll dust off the Mamiya C220 to shoot some 6x6 square format.
So with my TLR by my side, I took a little stroll through Old Town Orange (in Orange County, California of course) to expose a few rolls of Kodak Portra pushed 1 stop to get that tasty contrast. You see, I wanted to create a look a little bit like those old citrus ads. You know the ones I mean? A hand-painted old-timey Sunkist ad telling you to buy more Orange County oranges. One of those.
I’m not really the “photowalk” type, but maybe I will be from now on because I got some photos I actually quite like on this outing. And man, oh, man do I love using that Mamiya. There’s something special about shooting square format and there’s really nothing quite like using a twin-lens camera. Even if I hadn’t gotten a single good exposure, I would have been happy just to take the C220 for a walk.
    Thanks for watching!

The only thing I hate about Nick Carver videos is they inspire me so much I get about 5mins in & pause to go & look at an image I've taken months or years ago & look at it with a whole new 'Nick' viewpoint.

I Used those cameras in my studio and occassional on sites! Stunning gear. And to Rollei users, they suck! I kept a Rollei, that was intended for a love one! By the time fully serviced, relation-ship was done!Loved could leave camera on tripod! Rollei too fragile! Service and aftercare was unique! Your Video is stunning! Bravo!

Great images, great storytelling of their capture, great ambiance to it all. I think the soft light works really well. Of course you could hit the sliders to get an idea of what harsh light would have produced, or you could take a win and move on to the next adventure. The latter would fit the relaxed feel of this post.

A beautiful short story. I love these Rollei like cameras. Especially the the waist level viewfinder. But I could never really get used to the square format.

Nice to see you using a C220. They were the mainstay of wedding photographers many years ago, but I could never afford one, settling for a fixed lens Yashica 124G. I can't tell if it was intentional, but your dog pics suffered from their only issue, parallax error as you frame with one lens and shoot through the other.

love the bus stop nick :-) ; I've just committed to 120 B&W (acros) and doing the same round the roundabout you are in this vid, 3 weeks with one roll, looking at buildings, urban landscape, like this (but I got some art too {graffiti art on walls}-the GOOD kind :-) ) so now to the darkroom gods that roll goes, hoping things turn out; But the thing with the bus stop and clouds is the METAL, if it glares (has too much highlights), is the main problem here.

I once scoped out an old, abandoned factory for a quite a while to take photos of. There was never a soul around it. Finally, perfect lighting one afternoon and I set up to take photos and, suddenly, about 20 (at least, maybe more) fire trucks showed up (no sirens or lights) swarming all around the building. Turns out that they were going to do some kind of training session there for several hours. I could only laugh at the absurdity of it.
